Tunnel of Love: Ukraine's Most Romantic Spot
Visit the magical tree tunnel in Klevan that has captured hearts worldwide.
Near the small town of Klevan in Rivne Oblast, a three-kilometer stretch of railway track passes through an extraordinary natural tunnel formed by interlocking tree branches overhead. Known as the Tunnel of Love, it has become one of Ukraine's most photographed and visited attractions.
The tunnel was formed over decades as trees on either side of the track grew toward each other, their branches eventually meeting to create a living green archway. The railway is still in use — a small train passes through three times a day to service a local fibreboard factory — which adds to the charm rather than detracting from it.
The best time to visit is summer, when the dense canopy creates an almost magical green cathedral of light filtering through leaves. Autumn brings spectacular golden and amber colors, while winter transforms it into an ethereal white tunnel after snowfall.
Local legend holds that couples who walk through the tunnel while making a wish will have that wish come true, provided their love is true. Whether or not you believe the legend, the atmosphere is undeniably enchanting.
